Class Assignment: Project 2 Video Edit - Disharmony
BACKGROUND:
This project is a demonstration of my skill in the use of Premier Pro and video editing. It was the second project of my Video 101 class at the Art Institute of Charleston. The Video 101 class served as a foundation for students majoring in filmmaking and provides web design students such as myself useful skills in filmaking and video editing.
This project had three parts, two in which I had two work in a group. The first part was pitch a script and to generate a storyboard. As a group we brainstormed some ideas and wrote and revised scripts. We also put together a storyboard, which are essentially thumbnail sketches of a series of shots we were going to take. The second part was using basic camera techniques to create an original short video. We checked out our equipment (camera and lighting) and got together and filmed our shots based on what we put together on the storyboard. The third and final process was film editing which was an individual effort. We each took our copy of the shots, and decided on our own the how to edit the raw footage into a short film.
The most difficult part of the project is the filming. It takes a lot of time of preparation to ensure you have the right equipment and lighting to make shooting go smoothly. Several shots have to be taken to ensure we get the best shots and everything is captured with good lighting and is centered by the camera. Film editing is the best and most fun part of the process. You are deciding on your own what footage goes in the project you are individually graded on and how it is presented. I didn’t have too much difficulty learning to use Premiere Pro and learned a lot about filmmaking and video editing from this class.
I received a good grade on the project. I thought we did rather well though we had a difficult time with lighting shooting at night and limited time to do our shots. As a final act, we did class critiques on our video cuts and learned how we can improve on our future editing.
