Class Assignment: Animation - Mars Rover Curiosity
BACKGROUND:
This project is a demonstration of my skill in the use of Adobe After Effects to build an informative animation. I decided my animation would be about the Mars rover Curiosity. Space exploration is a topic I am interested in and the Mars rover Curiousity is something I follow in the news. The first part of my process was to collect all the facts on the mars rover and build a story board. I used the story board process to help me conceptualize the process of how my animation will flow. The next thing I did was develop a mood board. The mood board is a combination of texture, images, font and color, all for the purpose as an inspiration for my animation and drive the style of it. I combed the internet and put together selected images on a board.
The second deliverable for the project was an infographic. I used Adobe Illustrator to build all the graphics in it. The mood board I built earlier from collected images inspired me and helped set the tone for the infographic and later for the animation. The infographics contained some numerical facts of the Mars rover and those facts are featured prominently in my animation.
After building the infographics, I worked on the final animation. I did collect additional vector graphics from the internet, the Earth in the beginning and planet Mars. All the other graphics in the animation was built by me except for those two. I also added two songs, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" and "Magic Carpet Ride" from Steppenwolf covered by The Crystal Method.
The finished animation took some long hours but I was able to complete it on time. I brought it to the class at the eight week mark for critique before I turned it in for the final week.
